About Milltree Designs

Built in the Shop. Designed for Yours.

Milltree Designs creates woodworking plans for outdoor furniture and functional projects β€” plans that are clear enough for a weekend builder and detailed enough for a seasoned woodworker. The business is owned and operated by Alvin Randolph King, based in Canada.

My Background in Woodworking

I've been working with wood for years β€” building outdoor furniture, functional pieces for the home, and everything in between. What started as a hobby in my own shop became a passion for designing projects that actually work: plans that account for real-world lumber dimensions, common tool setups, and the kind of mistakes that happen when you're working alone on a Saturday afternoon.

Over time, I realized the plans I wished I'd had when I started didn't really exist. So I started making them.

How I Design and Test Every Plan

Every plan in the Milltree Designs catalogue goes through a real build process before it's published. I don't release a plan until I've worked through it myself β€” checking measurements, refining the cut list, and making sure the assembly sequence makes sense from start to finish.

If something is unclear on paper, it gets revised. If a joint needs a better explanation, it gets a diagram. The goal is a plan you can follow without having to guess.

What You Get With Every Plan

When you purchase a Milltree Designs plan, you receive a complete digital PDF that includes:

  • Step-by-step instructions β€” written in plain language, in the order you'll actually build
  • Detailed diagrams β€” dimensioned drawings and assembly illustrations so you can see exactly what you're building
  • A full cut list β€” every piece labelled with dimensions, so you can prep your lumber before you start cutting
  • Materials and hardware list β€” everything you'll need, listed in one place

Plans are delivered instantly as a digital download β€” no waiting, no shipping. You can print them out or pull them up on a tablet right in the shop.

A Note From Me

I know buying a digital plan means you're trusting that it's worth your time and materials before you've seen the finished product. I take that seriously. Every plan I publish is something I'd hand to a friend and feel good about.

If you ever have a question about a plan β€” before or after you buy β€” feel free to reach out. I'm a one-person operation, and I actually read my messages.

Thanks for supporting Milltree Designs. Now go build something.
